Fieldwork from the study of the largest Yelkouan Shearwater colony in Greece has revealed that breeding Yelkouan adults travel from the Aegean more than 2,800 km to forage as far as the Black Sea! Up to now, it was thought that breeding Yelkouan Shearwaters left the Black Sea at the start of the breeding season and remained in the Mediterranean till their return in August. Have a look at some of the tracks produced from two tagged birds from the colony on the Greek island of Gyaros in the FB post by the Hellenic Ornithological Society, HOS (BirdLife Greece) here!
