The Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA) is a newly-established public body governed by private law, operating under the supervision of the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy. NECCA’s mission is the implementation of national environmental policy via the management and governance of protected areas in Greece, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and promoting sustainable development.

Elena Bazioti

LIFE PanPuffinus! Project Manager (NECCA)

Elena is an Environmental Economist (Msc, University of York) with a Postgraduate Degree in Financial Management and Banking and holds a Bsc in Financial Management and Banking and a Bsc in Business Administration.
She is a First-Year PhD candidate at the Harokopion University in Athens in the Field of Sustainable Development Governance and the UN Agenda 2030.
She has previously worked at the Corporate Social Responsibility Department in the Ministry of Development and Investments and has been involved in the National Strategy/Plan for Corporate Social Responsibility.
She is trained as a professional divemaster and has participated as a volunteer at the Yaros Project for the underwater mapping of the Posidonia Oceanica meadows in the island of Yaros.
She has also offered her time as a volunteer at the Mom Rehabilitation Center for the Conservation of the Mediterranean Monk Seal on the island of Alonisos.
She currently works at the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA), a public institution for the management of the Protected Areas in Greece since its establishment in 2020. Her current duties involve EU project management, environmental accounting and budgeting, environmental policy implementation and protected areas management.

Dimitra Petza

LIFE PanPuffinus! project team member (NECCA)

Dimitra holds a BSc in Fisheries and Aquaculture, a BSc in Biology, and an MSc in Biological Oceanography. She has received further academic education in EU and international environmental law/policy and geographic information systems (GIS). Dimitra is a final-year PhD candidate at the University of the Aegean, with a research focus on fisheries management/policy and marine conservation.
She has published widely on these topics and has coordinated or participated in a series of national and international research projects. She provides her expertise to the IUCΝ as a member of the World Commission of Protected Areas OECMs Specialist Group and the Commission for Environmental Management Fisheries Expert Group.
Dimitra began her career in the aquaculture private sector. She then moved to research, working as a research assistant for the government and academia. For the years 2009-2021 she has been permanently appointed as a fisheries policy officer at the Directorate General for Fisheries of the Hellenic Ministry, with her work mainly focusing on fisheries management, the EU Common Fisheries Policy, Regional Fisheries Management Organizations policies, fisheries legislation, fisheries data management, and processing.
Dimitra has recently joined the newly established Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA). Her current duties involve EU project management, environmental policy, protected areas management/governance, and research on biodiversity conservation with an emphasis on the marine realm.

Lampros Katerinopoulos

LIFE PanPuffinus! project team member (NECCA)

Lampros is a chemist and holds a Msc of Sustainable Management of Protected Areas.
He worked for 11 years at the Department of Cross-Compliance at the Greek Payment Authority of Common Agricultural Policy. Since November of 2021 he has been working for the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency. His duties include environmental policy, wildlife crime, conservation and opinion reports.
He has been involved with the conservation of wild birds and their habitats for more than 15 years. For 9 years he was a member of the boards of the Hellenic Ornithological Society and the Management Agency of Amvrakikos Gulf.
