The Sociedad Española de Ornitología (SEO) is the Spanish BirdLife partner and has wide experience in research and conservation of seabirds, paying particular attention to the critically endangered Balearic Shearwater.

Paulo Lago

Marine Programme Officer

Graduated in Environmental Sciences and MSc in Protected Areas, Paulo Lago joined SEO/BirdLife in 2020 to study seabird bycatch.
He has been involved in several LIFE projects before such as LIFE+ Malta Seabird Project and LIFE Arċipelagu Garnija at BirdLife Malta.
His main focus are seabird monitoring, bycatch and predation by alien species.

Pep Arcos

Marine Programme Coordinator

PhD in Biology, Pep joined SEO/BirdLife in 2005 to work on a LIFE project for the identification of the Spanish Marine IBAs.
Since then, he has been coordinator of SEO’s marine programme, combining seabirds’ study, monitoring and conservation action with policy work and dissemination.
Of particular relevance there has been work addressing fishing bycatch, seeking the implication of fishermen.
He has devoted particular attention to the critically endangered Balearic Shearwater. He is also Associated Lecturer at the University of Barcelona.
